Available in two models, the 2022 Wagoneer is a three-row SUV that debuts in the United States. Evolving from a highly awarded Jeep platform that was previously produced only with two rows of seating, the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L now offers a third row.
The 2022 Wagoneer runs on a 5.7-liter engine block that claims the conventional HEMI design. Using lithium-ion and nickel cobalt manganese chemistry, the eTorque hybrid system generates up to 48 volts for enhanced efficiency. A 12-kW generator is another innovative component of the hybrid system on this all-new SUV. When executing pure combustion, the V-8 powerhouse whips out slightly more than 390 net horsepower. This naturally aspirated, eight-cylinder powerplant cranks out slightly over 400 pound-feet of torque. For its luxurious design, the 2022 Wagoneer has a stunning towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds in compliance with the latest SAE J2807 codes.
Standard under the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L’s hood, the 3.6-L Pentastar engine pumps out 290 hp. This normally aspirated, six-cylinder powerhouse has a towing rating of 6,200 lbs. When powered by the 5.7-L V-8 engine, this model gains 1,000 pounds of trailering capability. Both SUVs are driven by an automatic transmission system that makes up to eight gear combinations. Managed by an electronic dial, the gearbox is paired with a default rear-wheel drive (RWD) system.
Originally engineered by the FCA brand, the patented Traction Management System makes a smooth transition into the hands of Stellantis North America. The Selec-Terrain TMS adds five driving modes to the 2022 Wagoneer and 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. A toggle-type switch manages the Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud settings for superb off-road performance. As expected, the Auto and Sport modes optimize handling on paved surfaces. These three-row SUVs are also available with the Quadra-Trac I 4×4 drive system for reliable traction on rugged terrains. Both all-new vehicles can be upgraded with the Quadra-Trac II 4WD system, which incorporates a multi-speed transfer case.
Additionally, these competent SUVs offer the Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system for excellent off-road trekking. When fitted with the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension, the Wagoneer achieves a 10.0-inch ground clearance. This proprietary air suspension system lifts the Grand Cherokee L by an additional 0.9 inches.
Having a next-generation design, the Uconnect 5 infotainment system is installed inside the 2022 Wagoneer and 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. This updated multimedia unit includes a 10.1-inch touch screen with voice commands. A 10.25-inch display is also installed on the front passenger’s side of the Wagoneer. Also occupying 10.25 inches in the instrument cluster, a digital display provides supplemental visual cues for the driver. This high-end Jeep model also offers a rear entertainment package with dual monitors that measure 10.1 inches wide. Additionally, both models boast a 19-speaker sound system with the McIntosh branding. Featuring a 10-inch subwoofer, this patented audio system emits 950 acoustic watts.
